In conclusion, a video from Madhubani, Bihar, where an argument erupted over social distancing is being shared with a false claim that upper caste men refused to eat food cooked by a Dalit woman.
On 20th May, cyclone Amphan battered the coastal districts West Bengal, Odisha with heavy rain and storm causing huge damage to properties and lives. According to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), as Amphan hit the city with wind speeds of 130 kmph and more, over 5,000 trees were uprooted. While several fell on houses, the others lay across roads, blocking traffic and snapping electricity, telephone and broadband cables.
Following this Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited West Bengal and Odisha to take stock of the situation.
A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Cheif Minister Mamata Banerjee during this visit is being shared on social media with a claim that people raised the slogan of 'Chowkidar Chor Hai'. The viral video can be watched here:
The video was shared by a Facebook user Elvish Yadav. Another Facebook page Xpost shared the same video. The video is viral on Twitter as well.
The viral video has been edited to add the slogan to 'Chowkidar Chor Hai'. The original video was shared by the official Facebook page of Akashbani Sangbad Kolkata (regional unit of All India Radio) on May 22. In the original video, people shouted the slogan of 'Jai Shree Ram'. You can watch the original video here:
The video was also shared by several social media users to show people raised the slogan of "Jai Shri Ram" in front of Mamta Banerjee.
Last year West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had expressed her anger at a group of people who shouted “Jai Shri Ram” while her convoy was passing through West Midnapore district’s Chandrakona area during the general assembly election campaign.
A few weeks later, she was again greeted with the slogan of 'Jai Shree Ram' in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal when she was on her way to Naihati to participate in a sit-in against violence on her party workers after the Lok Sabha poll results. She again got off her car and confronted people who chanted 'Jai Shri Ram'.
The slogan "Chowkidar Chor Hai" was coined by the ex INC president Rahul Gandhi against Prime Minister Narendra Modi after raising allegations of favoritism and price escalation in the Dassault Rafale deal. After the Supreme court's judgment in Rafale deal in favor of the government, Rahul Gandhi has attributed the slogan to the supreme court. Later, Rahul Gandhi had to tender an unconditional apology to Supreme Court for 'chowkidar chor hai' attribution.
In Conclusion, the claim that PM Modi was greeted with the slogan of 'CHowkidar Chor Hai' during his recent visit of West Bengal is false. He was actually greeted with the slogan of "Jai Shree Ram".
